Game Summaries & Headlines.
I am sure many of you are not familiar with the sport of rowing (or “crew” as it is also referred).
The Mt Vernon Crew Team has been competing at Mt Vernon High School since 2003. The team practices out of Ft. Belvoir Marina, right through Walker Gate, 5465 Hudson Rd, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060. We practice on the Potomac River and most of our races are on the Occoquan Reservoir. We realize several team members have never been on the water and we make safety the first priority. Rowing is a walk-on sport and we teach all of the mechanics necessary as well as catering conditioning to the individual.
Our program currently has two coaches. The team works as a family and supports each other, instilling leadership in the varsity members. Culture and purpose is the foundation of any successful organization – rowing is no different. Of course, the purpose of a sport like rowing is racing. The training is hard and time consuming. Academics are the reason for attending high school and hence they are the top priority – but academics should not be the excuse. Support and accountability balance each other. We are realistic about what is possible and we are here to help. It becomes about the journey and experiences, shared with like-minded hardworking students from all kinds of backgrounds but with a common goal: to become the best they can be.
The coaches and members of the team’s board are holding a Virtual Callout, December 7th, at 4 pm. https://meet.google.com/lookup/d6beronzie
